Kilteskill seventeenth-century gravestones

Seventeenth-century style slab
Christy Cunniffe

Co. Galway, Ireland

It is one of a number of graveslabs in the chancel area of Kilteskill medieval parish church. I refer to them as seventeenth-century style, as tapered grave-slabs of this type can still be found into the eighteenth century in this region. Note the incised cross shaft. The Calvary base is harder to see due to the heavy coat of lichen.
