Loughrea graveslab (1)
Loughrea medieval graveslab
Christy Cunniffe
This tapered graveslab stands at the east end of Loughrea Church of Ireland church now Loughrea Library. It bears a cross carved in very light relief with unusual angular terminals to the cross-head. The form of decoration to the cross is similar to the broken slab (Loughrea 2) lying in the graveyard to the south of the church. The edges of the stone are chamfered. There is no inscription. It is likely to be late 13th or 14th century in date.
