Dunmore graveslab

Medieval tapered graveslab

Christy Cunniffe

Ring Headed Cross Dunmore
Christy Cunniffe

This broken tapered graveslab is preserved in Dunmore Augustinian Abbey. It bears a crudely cut ringed-cross and lacks an inscription. The narrow end of the slab is missing. The ring appears in the wider splayed end of the slab and contains a cross, the shaft of which extends downwards from the ring towards the base. The lower terminal is missing so it is not possible to know how it may have looked. The cross shaft is thicker than the arms of the cross. A pair of incised lines on the sides of the slab form an outer border. Both the ring and the cross consists of two lines.
