Booleyandoorish hut
Hut site in Booelyandoorish.
Christy Cunniffe
This feature consists of a circular hut site set within an oval enclosure. This hut site is likely to be associated with the practice of booleying or transhumance as the booley element in the townland name suggests. A number of circular earth covered hut circles have been recorded throughout the Slieve Aughty’s. This particular site is enclosed with an oval shaped earthen bank and is situated on a rise of ground in an otherwise boggy situation. The footings of a rectangular vernacular sod-walled house is situated within two hundred metres of the site but may not be related in time. This unique site was first brought to my attention by local man Kevin Cunningham.
