Fragment of chevron

Athenry Friary chevron
Christy Cunniffe

Section of masonry with chevron device in Athenry Dominican friary. The erection of the friary dates to the mid thirteenth-century so places this Romanesque piece quite late. It is similar to work on the vault of the Cistercian Abbey built by the Cistercians in Corcomroe, Co. Clare and the south doorway of Drumacoo church, near Kicolgan, Co. Galway.
