Water Pumping System
Gort
Christy Cunniffe
The remains of a horse powered water pumping system at Coole Park, Gort. Water was pumped from here to the big house. Structures such as these are of great interest to industrial heritage enthusiasts and should be recorded. Many appear on OS maps. Engine houses like this one contained horse powered engines which in turn were used to drive mills, crushers and other pieces of plant. They were a feature of the larger estate.
