Pillar box

Pillar box.
Christy Cunniffe

This Edwardian pillar box is located in front of the Court House in Ballinasloe. It bears an ornate royal monogram E R VII for Edward Rex (King Edward VII) on the lower front. Above this monogram a crown is emblazoned. Stamped street furniture such as this show the transition from being a colony under British rule to becoming an independent Republic, so are useful markers of the nations history.
