This green post box near Tynagh is a typical example of a Victorian post box with the VR emblazoned on it. The door is a replacement bears the initials SÉ for Saorstát Éireann (Free State Ireland) signifying Southern Ireland’s independence from Great Britain. These precious pieces of our postal history are in danger of being stolen and sold – so people should be vigilant.
