Kilconnell Cross

Seventeenth-century cross

Cross head in Kilconnell
Christy Cunniffe

This feature consists of limestone cross-head preserved in the grounds of Kilconnell Franciscan friary. It lies on the top of a modern grave within the cloister area. It is similar in style to the cross-head on the seventeenth-century O’Donnellan cross standing in the village of Kilconnell. It is octagonal in shape, and has a slight expansion or enlargement to the terminals forming into a round end. It appears to be a second cross of the same style. It does not appear to my knowledge to have been previously noted.
