Dovecotes are a common feature associated with the the Big House. They generally consist of a specially built structure with rows of pigeon holes to house the nesting doves. Doves were taken for the table. Not all cotes were structures as such. Some were wooden cotes set into windows of estate yard houses, while others utilized original buildings such as tower houses.
