This monument consists of an armorial plaque bearing the Coat of Arms of the Bellew family with a rather flowery inscription beneath. It is mounted on a stone plinth in the woodland adjacent to Mountbellew town. The Bellews were one of a large number of Catholic gentry families to be transplanted into Co. Galway during the Cromwellian period. The plaque is believed to have formerly been incorporated into the town mill.
