Conservation Management Plan

Moylough Cultural Heritage and Resource Centre procured the services of Aegis Archaeology to prepare a Conservation Management Plan for Moylough Castle Co. Galway. A multi-disciplinary team included a structural engineer, archaeologist, conservation architect and ecologist. Aerial photographs and a photographic survey of the monument was carried out which provides a concise and accurate record for the site 2024.
Public Engagement
The Conservation Management Plan will inform all stakeholders how best to proceed with the protection, conservation and showcasing of this monument in rural County Galway. It is a recorded monument in private ownership. The castle is an iconic feature of Moylough and is an integral part of the landscape of north Galway since the 12th century, It is stated within the Conservation and Management Plan that it is in need of urgent attention to enable it to continue well into the twenty-first century and beyond.
The Community Monuments Fund
The Conservation & Management Plan for Moylough Castle was funded through the Community Monuments Fund, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and administered through Galway County Council.
