The Irish Building Design Awards have become one of the biggest nights in Irish construction. They recognise and reward the amazing skills and expertise within the building and design sectors in Ireland.
A record number of applications were put forward this year, so it is a huge achievement to make the 2025 shortlist. Kilboght Church and Mausoleum was shortlisted under the Heritage and Conservation Project of the Year category . The awards ceremony took place Friday 4th April 2025.
Work at Kilboght
Conservation works at Kilboght were carried out following the preparation of a Conservation and Management Plan, funded by The Community Monuments Fund, awarded by the National Monuments Service, Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage and administered through Galway County Council. A story map of Kilboght, including a podcast and video features local lady Katie Duane. She encapsulates the importance of Kilboght for the local community. Galway County Council Heritage Office and Galway Community Archaeology Project worked with the community over the past number of years with advice and support during the various phases of the project.
Expert Team of Heritage Professionals
The team of professionals involved ensured works were carried out to the highest standard. Heritage contractors were Galway Stone Design, Consultant Archaeologist Dominic Delany, Conservation Architects 7L Architects and MKO LTD provided ecological expertise. Challenging conditions and a tight timeframe did not deter the quality of work seen here at Kilboght.
International Day for Sites and Monuments was celebrated with a tour of the site by Dr Christy Cunniffe, Dominic Delany and Bernie Doherty. This was one of three sites visited on the day, which also included Abbeygormican and St. Kerrills.
