This dovecote or pigeon house consists of a well built square structure forming part of the landscape design of Balydonnelan Castle near Cappataggle, Co. Galway. The inside is built in the round with rows of well formed pigeon holes to accommodate the nesting doves. Its pointed Gothic style doorway was meant to mimic the architecture of the nearby castle/house. As well as being a functional means of providing meat for the household, it also functions as an attractive eye catcher within the demesne landscape.
