Neolithic polished stone axe

This small polished stone axe dates to the neolithic period. It was discovered in Clonfert Butson bog in the civil parish of Clonfert, Co. Galway on the eve of the millennium. It suffered a small bit of damage due it having being picked up by a Bord na Mona peat harvester. It was deposited in the Natural Museum of Ireland in the year 2000 by the writer. This artefact was recovered by the late Brendan Spellman accompanied by the writer on the evening of December 31st 1999.
