Galway County Council procured the services of Aegis Archaeology to prepare a Conservation Management Plan for Killogilleen, Recorded Monument  GA104-148—comprising church, graveyard and associated features. The Community Monuments Fund was approved by the National Monuments Service, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and administered through Galway County Council.

Multi-discipline Team

A multi-disciplinary team included a conservation architect, structural engineer, archaeologists and ecologist.. Measured Building Survey, Photogrammetry & Laser Scanning as well as aerial photographs and a photographic survey of the ruins was carried out which provides a concise and accurate record for the site 2023. Notable features are carved heads, one of which was not previously recorded and the identification of a possible ring barrow in the adjoining field.

Public Engagement

The Conservation Management Plan will inform all stakeholders how best to proceed with the protection, conservation and showcasing of this monument in rural County Galway.
