The milestone located outside the main gates to Coole Park was badly damaged by an ill thought out celebratory bonfire set against it some years ago. The main photograph shown here was taken prior to that event. The second and third photograph were taken after the milestone being damaged by the fire. The distance to Galway is given as 16 miles. The stone is believed to be in a secondary position where it currently placed. It consist of a stone with a flat face and a pair of slightly angled sides. The inscription is picked out in white paint making it easy to read the distance.
